The Orange Lions hung tough and made plays on both sides of the ball to defeat the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Royals 35-34. The one point spread was due to a surge from the Lions FG block team, allowing Junior Michael Henderson to block the potential game-tying extra point with 4 minutes left.
Despite some near-misses early, the Orange offense continued its fast start to the season. Sophomore Receiver Milan Pittmon posted his first career TD reception with a brilliant catch-and-juke. Junior Chris Von Hendrix had another brilliant TD reception in the back of the endzone. Senior DaeShawn Henderson had a nice night on the ground with 86 yards on 12 carries including a TD. Junior QB Stephen Borgman added two rushing scores to go along with 305 yards passing, including the go-ahead scramble TD that proved to be the winning score.
The Orange Defense made some timely plays as well. Senior Rhonald Houston had another good night in pass coverage. Michael Henderson was a force at nose-tackle. Senior LB Ryan DuBois had his first career interception to get the ball back for the Lions offense.
Next up for the Lions is the home-opener and beginning of league play against Perry on Friday. It will be an "Orange-Out" as part of Community Night to dedicate the new playing surface.
