Last Friday evening, The Orange Lions hosted "Community Night" in the Lions Den. With a packed house and the atmosphere electric, The Orange Lions were surely going to come out and get a big lead right out of the gate, right?Actually, the contrary happened as CVCA returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. And as the offense struggled early, CVCA was able to capitalize on some mistakes and get a large lead of 21-0. But The Lions fought back. An interception by Sophomore Safety Sean Borgman put The Orange offense in great position to get a touchdown.

Even with The Lions down 21 points, they continued to battle. A touchdown by Junior RB Jake Sonkin put The Lions 7 points away from getting even with CVCA. With the score 14-21 at the half, The Orange Lions needed to make some adjustments and come out in the second half ready to go. The offense started clicking in the second half as Jake Sonkin once again scored a touchdown, this time from 19 yards out. With the score even, The Lion defense needed to make a stop to get the offense back on the field. Then something better happened. Junior MLB Pablo Garcia intercepted a screen pass and took it 60 yards to the endzone for a touchdown. With Orange on top, it was time to wear down The Royals. However; they would not be denied. The Lion defense struggled all evening to stop the running attack of CVCA. When Jake Sonkin scored yet again, The Royals again had an answer. With Orange up 35-34, CVCA came out to attempt the all important extra point. When the kick came off low, it gave Senior DE Trey Snoddy the opportunity to get high enough to block it. As The Lions were able to run out the clock, thanks to the offensive line and Jake Sonkin, they finished the game with a win. Even with the struggles throughout the game, "A win is a win is a win."

The Orange Lions look to improve their record to 3-1 as they travel to Painesville for their first CVC conference game against Harvey. Come up this Friday and make the journey to Painesville to support The Lions as they look to improve to 3-1! Hope to see you there!
