The Orange Lions take down Chagrin Falls to improve to 4-1
Post date: Sep 28, 2015 2:13:12 PM
For the first time in 21 years, the Orange Lions defeated Chagrin Falls by a score of 34-31. The Tigers took an early 8-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Lions defense settled in and took control. Senior CB Lamar Dixon stripped the ball loose causing a fumble that was recovered by junior DT Nolan Gaines. This would set up the Lion's first touchdown of the game when senior QB Ryan Singer would run 28 yards through the heart of the Tigers defense to make the score 8-7. After another stop by the Orange Lion defense, senior WR Milan Pittmon would score a touchdown from 5 yards out putting the Lions ahead 14-8. However, Chagrin Falls would score on a 71 yard reverse-pass and took the lead into halftime by a score of 21-14.
The second half was filled with emotion and old fashioned football. The Orange Lions came out and scored immediately in the second half with a beautifully set up screen pass from Ryan Singer to senior RB DaJuan White for 63 yards. On the ensuing drive, Chagrin Falls went 3 and out as the Orange defense smothered the Tigers and stopped them on 3rd and 2. After that, the Orange Lions never looked back. They took control up front not allowing Chagrin Falls to get back into the game. Milan Pittmon, who led the defense with 11 tackles, would again score, this time from 56 yards with a pass from Ryan Singer. While Chagrin Falls scored late in the 4th quarter, they needed 90 yards and 7 minutes to do so. They would not see the field again as the Orange Lion offensive line, led by junior OT Josiah Tate and company would dominate the line of scrimmage, allowing the Lions to run out the clock with punishing blows.
The big win marked a turning point in the Orange Lion Football Program. "We never look back now!" That was the message from Head Coach Adam Bechlem after the game. The Orange Lions improved to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the CVC. This week, the Orange Lions will host Wickliffe (2-3) in the annual Homecoming game. Come out and support the Orange Lions as they look to improve to 5-1 in their historic season!
